GREENUP, Ky. — Downtown Greenup, Ky., now has a business that is unique. Pop Pop’s Sandwich Shoppe, 312 Main Street, opened for business on Wednesday, June 10.

Pop Pop’s Sandwich Shoppe is owned by Missy and Larry Hackworth, who both have backgrounds in the restaurant business. Missy said the new business is going really well.

“Pop Pop’s is the name our granddaughter calls my husband, so we decided to call it Pop Pop’s,” Missy Hackworth said. “It is going really well. We are doing great. We are the only food place in downtown Greenup. If you want a restaurant you have to go out on Route 23. I grew up in a family business, and my husband came up in a family business, both in the restaurant business, so we thought we’d open one up in downtown Greenup because there’s nothing here.”

The menu for Pop Pop’s is quite extensive including coffee, hamburgers, hot dogs, Philly cheese steak, hoagies, mozzarella sticks, bread sticks, and chicken alfredo, to name a few of the foods available at the restaurant.

Pop Pop’s Sandwich Shoppe is not a dine-in restaurant, but offers carry out only.

“Customers can call in, or come in and wait. We have an order today for 77 orders for the court house,” she said.

While waiting, Pop Pop’s customers have the opportunity to look at lovely crafts that decorate the eatery.

“The whole front of our store has crafts and things that we handcrafted ourselves, and things that we have for sale, ” she said. “The whole front is decorated old fashion style, we have flower arrangements, primitives, you name it, we’ve got it.”

Hours of operation for Pop Pop’s is Monday through Friday 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
