Fall Festival at Morning Pointe Sept. 29

RUSSELL, Ky. — Morning Pointe, 1000 Addington Drive in Russell, Ky. (formerly known as Morning Pointe Ridge,) is hosting a Fall Festival on Tuesday, Sept. 29 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. The festival is open to the community.

Wanda Parker, senior executive director of Morining Pointe, said this will be the biggest Fall Festival that they have hosted thus far.

“We do this annually, and this year it will be the biggest yet. We started out thinking that we could make a little bit of money for Alzheimer’s, because every year we do the Walk to End Alzheimer’s because we have a Memory Care Unit here at Morning Pointe,” Parker said.

There will be a variety of carnival-style games including a dunk tank, shoot the cans, ring toss, corn hole, live music, bouncy house and much more. The Marshall University Basketball team will also be on-hand signing autographs and passing out this year’s basketball schedule.

A Vendor Fair will feature Jewelry by Premier Jewelry, Multi-purpose bags by Thirty-One, Scentsy Candles, Kona Shaved Ice, Skin Care Products and other home health experts of Tech-Medical and Amedysis.

“We start raising money at the beginning of the year. Last year we raised $6,500 dollars, just our building alone, and this year we are on target to raise greater than $7,000,” she said. “Our Fall Festival is our final fundraiser for the year. Our walk is on October third in Central Park in Ashland.”

Parker said she learned more about Alzheimer’s and just how devastating it can be for individuals with the disease, their families, and those who help take care of them.

“I am also a registered nurse, and when I left the hospital to come into this type of setting, I didn’t know anything about Alzheimer’s’s because as a nurse, you know what you are working with that day, for example, if you are in the cardiac unit, then you know all about cardiac related information, so I’d never worked with patients with Alzheimer’s before,” she said. “And once I came here and saw the impact that Alzheimer’s has on the actual individual, their families, and their care givers it really touched my heart because it robs the individual, but it also robs the family of the person that they used to know. So we decided that the Alzheimer’s Association would be our charitable organization of choice.”

Festival attendees can enjoy boxed dinners as well, consisting of hot dogs, chips and a cookie for $5. Tickets for games may be purchased one for $1 or six for $5, with a variety of prizes awarded.
