WHEELERSBURG — The Celebrate Recovery (CR) program at Cornerstone Nazarene Church, 12138 Gallia Pike Rd. in Wheelersburg, will host the third annual Glow 5k. The event begins at the church Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. and will conclude at the church.

Erica Parsley has served as a group leader for Cornerstone Nazarene Church’s CR program since it’s inception three years ago, and began serving as the leader of the entire CR program at the church seven months ago.

“We call it the Celebrate Recovery (CR) Glow Run 5K. We light the course with glow in the dark items, and wear our glow in the dark shirts, necklaces and bracelets, just to make it a lot of fun,” Parsley said. “Celebrate Recovery is a 12-step program that is faith-based, with the use of the scriptures.”

The CR program at Cornerstone Nazarene Church is not confined to individuals who struggle with drug and alcohol addiction, according to Parsley.

“It is a group that is open for any type of addiction,” she said. “It is not just for drug and alcohol, it is for people with eating disorders, depression, anxiety, things such as that. It’s a 12-step support group that is open to many different things.”

She said all of the funds raised from the Glow Run go toward the CR program at Cornerstone Nazarene Church.

“For our Celebrate Recovery, we meet at the church every Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. here at Cornerstone Nazarene here in Wheelersburg, and we provide a free meal and free child care, for anyone that wants to come,” she said. “So that is what we use the money for that we raise.”

The registration fee for the Glow Run 5k is $25 per person, which includes a t-shirt for those who are registered by Sept. 20.

“We will be registering people up until the day of the race, and registration will begin the day of the race at 7 o’clock, but anyone who registers after the 20th is just not guaranteed a t-shirt,” she said.

The event will also include music to be played by a DJ, as well as glow in the dark face painting stations, and snacks.

“This walk is for everyone of all ages. All age groups can come out and walk,” she said. “It will be a fun time for all.”

The Glow Run 5K is the primary source of funding for the CR Program at Cornerstone.

“The run is professionally timed by Tristateracer, will start at the church, and ends at the church. We will have the road blocked off for it, and it is a pretty flat paced course, and it is a 5K,” she said. “It is very important, because it is our annual fundraiser, and is the only fundraiser that we have which sustains our Celebrate Recovery Program for the whole year.”

She said the CR program has made a tremendous impact upon many of the group member’s lives.

“I have seen God do some amazing work in our Celebrate Recovery ministry,” she said. “I’ve seen it change people’s life. It is a great, great program. People have overcome heroin addictions, eating disorders, alcoholism, so many things.”
