WURTLAND, Ky. — According to Don Salmmons, Police Chief of Raceland Police Department (RPD) a two-vehicle crash occurred on US 23 at Industrial Parkway in Wurtland, Ky. on Thursday at approximately 1:17 p.m. The area where the crash occurred was closed until 2:03 p.m. due to the accident.

Chief Salmmons told The Daily Times that Thursday’s crash involved Earl P. Schillings, of Ironton, and Donald R. Perkins of Ashland, Ky.

“Schillings was travelling northbound on US 23, at the time which Perkins was stopped at a traffic light, which had just turned green. He was starting out from a stopped position when Schillings said he had some kind of bubble that came up in his eye, which caused him temporary blindness, and he rear-ended the van that Perkins was driving,” Salmons said.

He also said there were no passengers in Schillings or Perkins’s vehicle at the time of the accident.

“The accident actually took place in Wurtland, but we control that area,” he said.

Information regarding the status of Schillings and or Perkins was unavailable. According to Salmmons, the crash remains under investigation by the RPD.
