FLATWOODS, Ky. — Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), the Poage Chapter is preparing to hold a special recognition for Vietnam Veterans for the veterans and their spouses on Saturday, Aug. 29 at the Flatwoods Senior Citizen Center from 2 to 4 p.m.

Amanda Tilsley, Chairman of Commemorative Events, and Vice Regent for the Poage Chapter of the DAR, said they are hosting the picnic to express their appreciation of Vietnam Veterans.

“Our chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution has been in existence for over 100 years, national has been in existence for 125 years,” Tilsley said. “This Saturday we are commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, and we just wanted to thank the Vietnam Veterans. We want to do this because, they were not properly thanked whenever they came home. This is just a little way that we can honor them with a picnic and will be giving them a certificate of appreciation, and a lapel pin to let them know that a grateful nation honors them.”

She said the event will be open to Vietnam Veterans and members of their families, and surviving spouses. She also said the spouses of the veterans that have already passed away are also welcome to attend the picnic.

For veterans and their spouses that would like to participate, are asked to RSVP with the name and branch of service to Amanda Tilsley at 606-834-9735, or email her at: [email protected], so that certificates of appreciation made be constructed.
