GREENUP COUNTY, Ky. — According to reports from the Greenup County Sheriff’s Department (GCSD), 10 marijuana plants were discovered by Sheriff’s Deputies in the Oldtown, Ky. area. GCSD Deputy Matt Smith and Deputy Darrell McCarty seized the plants on on Friday, Aug. 21.

According to Deputy Smith, the marijuana plant seizure was made possible by an anonymous tip they received.

“We got a call in on an anonymous tip that was in a rural area in the Oldtown area of the county,” Smith said. “It was like about 10 plants, and they had been well attended, well taken care of.”

GCSD is asking that any information related to illegal plants be reported to the GCSD. He assures that all tips will remain anonymous.

“We are advising people that if they have any tips, or if they want to turn something in like this, all tips and information will be kept anonymous, and we would greatly appreciate it,” he said.

He said an estimated street value of the Aug. 21 seizure was not determined, due to the immaturity of the plant growth.

“They weren’t very mature plants, at this time, it was a bit early,” he said. “Here in the next month or so, they will be starting to harvest, and I am sure there are plenty more marijuana plants out there, and we would love to hear of where they are, if anybody knows.”

He said no arrests have been made yet regarding the recent marijuana plant findings, and that an investigation is still pending.

To report an anonymous tip, contact the GCSD at 606-473-9833.
