Election board reviews candidates, issues

The Scioto County Board of Elections met on Monday to set the local November General Election Ballot and ballot initiatives.

Candidates to appear on the ballot include an unopposed Steven Mowery for Portsmouth Municipal Court Judge. Trent Williams is running unopposed for Portsmouth City Auditor. John Haas and Gene Meadows are seeking the office of Portsmouth Solicitor. There is a write-in candidate for Second Ward representative on Portsmouth City Council. The write-in candidate has been identified as Jo Ann Aeh. Jim Kalb is running unopposed for Forth Ward representative on Portsmouth City Council. Tom Lowe and Shawn Stratton are seeking the office of Sixth Ward representative on Portsmouth City Council.

William “Junior” Williams Jr., is running unopposed for the office Mayor for the Village of New Boston. Lana Loper is running unopposed for the office of Clerk/Treasurer for the Village of New Boston. Four seats are up for grabs on the New Boston Village Council and Dan Fetty, Jon Mills, Mike Payton, and Johnnie Steele are each on the ballot.

Denise Rose is running unopposed for the office of Mayor for the Village of Otway. Valerie Enz and Melodee Ruby are seeking the office of Clerk/Treasurer for the Village of Otway. Four people are seeking two open seats on Village Council of Otway — Lillie Crisp, Amy Eichenlaub, Michael Eichenlaub, Anita Powell are running.

Ronald Syroney is running unopposed for the office of Mayor of the Village of Rarden. Mary Thompson, Sharon Ward, and Angie White are seeking two open seats on Village of Rarden Council.

Maribeth Dalton is running unopposed for Mayor of the Village of South Webster. Jerri Cummings and Carlos Mays are seeking two open seats on the South Webster Village Council.

Paul Crabtree and Arnold McCoy are seeking two open seats on the South Central Ohio Educational Service Center Governing Board. Turman Helton and Timothy Williams are running unopposed for a seat on the Ross Pike County Education Service Center.

Myra Shields, Thomas Smith, and Mary Sommer are seeking three seats on the Board of Education for the Portsmouth City School District. Patti Fannin and Jeffery Moore are running for two open seats on the Board of Education for the New Boston School District. Harveena Fenton and Missy Smith are seeking two open seats on the Board of Education for the Bloom Vernon School District. William Warnock and Alan Boyer are seeking two open seats on the Board of Education for the Clay School District. Frank Bevins and Debra Hannah are seeking two open seats on the Board of Education for the Eastern School District.

There are two open seats on the Board of Education for the Green Local School District, with Robert Cline, Keith Otworth Sr. and Sandi Poe seeking a seat. Mark Caudill and Mike Gampp are seeking two open seats on the Board of Education for the Minford School District.

Four people are seeking two open seats on the Board of Education for the Northwest School District. Those seeking a seat are Keith Crabtree, Adam Jones, Jared Lute, and Jake Orlett. Jeff Cutler, Annette Jenkins and Norman Lightle are seeking two open seats on the Board of Education for the Scioto Valley School District.

Four people are seeking three open seats on the Board of Education for the Valley School District. Those seeking the office include, Carl Crabtree, David Flowers, Troy Gahm and Brett Smith.

Tom Berry, Cathy Coleman, Leonna Kouns, and Scott Staggs are seeking three open seats on the Board of Education for the Washington-Nile School Board. Ben Gill and Scott Jolly are seeking two open seats on the Board of Education for the Wheelersburg School District.

Fred Canter is running unopposed for Trustee in Bloom Township. Diana Stonerock is running unopposed for Bloom Township Fiscal Officer.

Michael Stump and a write in candidate are seeking one open seat for the office of Brush Creek Township.

Beverly Eichenlaub is running unopposed for Fiscal Officer in Brush Creek Township. Bill Runyon is running unopposed for the office of Clay Township Trustee.

Rick Vournazos is running unopposed for Clay Township Fiscal Officer. Darrell Thomas is running unopposed for Green Township Trustee. Sandra Cherry is running unopposed for Green Township Fiscal Officer. Alan Brisker is running unopposed for Harrison Township Trustee.

For Harrison Township Fiscal Officer Sandra Brisker is running unopposed. In Jefferson Township Charles Harris is running unopposed for the office of Trustee. Lisa Buckle is running unopposed for Fiscal Officer in Jefferson Township.

Donald Lambert and Greg Shirey II are seeking one open seat for Madison Township Trustee.

Jacqueline Noel is running unopposed for the office of Madison Township Fiscal Officer. Ralph Carver and Chane Marcum are seeing one open seat as Morgan Township Trustee.

Carolyn Hobbs is running unopposed for the office of Morgan Township Fiscal Officer. Harold Hayslip and Scott Journey are seeking on open seat as Nile Township Trustee.

Christopher Norman is running unopposed for the office of Nile Township Fiscal Officer. David Hayden is running unopposed for the office of Porter Township Trustee. Ted Adams is running unopposed for the office of Porter Township Fiscal Officer.

There are three people seeking the office of Trustee in Rarden Township. Those seeking the office include Michelle Adams, Terry Foster, and Jerrald Osborne. Stacy Hall and Dixie Kirker are seeking the office of Rarden Township Fiscal Officer.

Jarrod Montavon is running unopposed for Rush Township Trustee and Jill Springs is running unopposed for the office of Fiscal Office in Rush Township. David Euton is running unopposed for Trustee of Union Township.

Three people are running for Union Township Fiscal Officer. Those seeking the office include Angie Howell, Kevin Marshall and Donald Osborne. Two people are seeking the office of Trustee in Valley Township, Robby Hall and Larry Merritt is seeking the office. Lanette Wagner is running unopposed for the office for Fiscal Officer for Valley Township.

Rick Cartee and Fred Wicker are seeking one seat as Vernon Township Trustee. Sandy Bandy-Belford is running unopposed for Fiscal Officer in Vernon Township.

Three people are seeking one open seat as a Washington Township Trustee. Those running for the seat include Mark Doll, Tony Journey and Jerry Russell. Cheri Seevers is running unopposed for Fiscal Officer of Washington Township.

Local questions and issues to be on the November General Election include the Village of New Boston seeking of a renewal levy used to cover current expenses. The levy is one mill and would run for five years. Brush Creek Township is seeking a renewal of a cemetery maintenance levy. Brush Creek Township is also seeking a new 0.25 Parks and Recreations levy, which, if approved, would run for five years.

Clay Township is seeking two replacement levies on for roads and bridges and one for fire apparatus and equipment. Harrison Township is seeking a replacement EMS levy. Jefferson Township is seeking three replacement levies one for EMS, roads and bridges and road improvement. The village of Otway is seeking an additional levy to cover current expenses. Rush Township is seeking a levy for current expenses, the township is also asking voters if they would want the township to enact an electricity aggregation program. The village of South Webster is seeking a renewal of a levy to cover current expenses. Valley Township is seeking a replacement Fire Protection levy. Washington Township is seeking the renewal of a police protection levy.

Scioto County Children Services is seeking a replacement levy to fund operations. This is also the only countywide issue that will appear on the ballot.

There will be seven local liquor options on the ballot in various locations throughout the county. Sonora Mexican Grill is seeking approval to sell spirituous and Sunday sale of spirituous li
quor between the hours of 11 a.m. and midnight. Minford Kwik Stop is seeking permission to sell wine and mixed beverages. Minford Kwik Stop is also seeking permission to sell beer. Portsmouth Kroger is seeking permission to sell liquor between the hours of 10 a.m. and midnight. Weaver West is seeking permission to sell beer. Porter Economic Development Group is seeking permission to sell beer, wine and mixed beverages and the Sunday selling of beer, wine and mixed beverages between the hours of 11 a.m. and midnight. JC Carryout is seeking permission for the sale of beer, wine and mixed beverages and Sunday sale of wine and mixed beverages between the hours of 10 a.m. and midnight.

Other factors that might add issues to the ballot include state issues and the deadline to register as a write-in candidate is not until the end of the month.
