A hazmat team was called in Wednesday morning after Waverly Police located what they believe was a methamphetamine lab. Arrested was George Ratliff, Jr., who was taken into custody without incident.
Pike County Sheriff Charles S. Reader said around 4 a.m. officers from the Waverly Police Department responded to the area of Towne Street in reference to a complaint of someone possibly manufacturing methamphetamine. Upon arrival, officers said they located a strong odor of chemicals they said was consistent with the production of Meth at 508 Towne St.
Officers reportedly made contact with Ratliff, who was taken into custody.
The Pike County Sheriff’s office was contacted and requested to dismantle the meth lab they reportedly located there. Waverly Police Chief Larry Roe, Reader, Hazmat One, Squad One and the Waverly Fire Department responded to the scene to assist.
Ratliff was to be housed in the jail and charged with illegal manufacturing and illegal assembly. The case will be presented to the next term of the Pike County grand jury.
Both Roe and Reader said anyone with information regarding the case or any other illegal activity should contact the Waverly Police Department of the Pike County Sheriff’s Office. They said all tips will remain anonymous and will be checked out without delay.
