A Franklin Furnace couple has been arrested while their son is still at large. Arrested were Shirley Steele, 59, of Franklin Furnace, and George Steele, 64, of Franklin Furnace. Both were charged with one count of obstructing official business and were being held without bond.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said his office had been looking for Matthew C. Steele who failed to appear for sentencing back in June. However, Steele has since been arrested and is currently in prison.

Donini said detectives had spoken with his family about his location and they stated that they did not know where he was and stated that he was not at their residence located at 113 Napolean Lane. During the investigation they were able to determine that Matthew Steele had been staying at that location and was at the house during the time the detective had spoken to the family.

On June 25, detectives and deputies responded to that location which resulted in the suspect that was wanted, Matthew Steele, running out the back door into a wooded area. Steele was arrested shortly after hiding in the wooded area behind the house. Charges were presented on several family members for obstructing justice to the Scioto County grand jury.

On Aug. 8, an indictment warrant was issued for three subjects involved in this case. Deputies responded to the same location and were able to arrest two without incident. The third suspect fled out the back door into the wooded area and was able to get away on foot.

Hank Steele, age 23, of Franklin Furnace is currently at large and is wanted on the same charges.

Donini said anyone with information regarding the case should contact detective Jodi Conkel at the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office at 740-354-7566. All calls will remain anonymous.
