The Daily Times and Community Common are happy to announce, Laura Rogers, has joined our team.
Hope Comer, Publisher of the newspapers, welcomed Rogers to the team as an office administration clerk on Dec. 27, 2016.
Rogers will be stepping into the role formerly held by Katherine (Kathy) Venturino, who passed away in October. Kathy worked at the Daily Times for over 20 years.
“It’s a big role to fill,” said Rogers. “Kathy seemed like she was a great employee and took care of a lot.”
Rogers is responsible for overseeing obituary placement, handling billing inquiries, accepting payments for advertisement, managing accounts and placing legal ads.
“It is difficult to lose an employee, especially when the loss is due to passing on from this life,” Hope Comer said. “Kathy was a cornerstone of the newspaper.”
Prior to working at the Times, Rogers worked part-time and worked as a stay-at-home mom — raising five children.
After her youngest left elementary school at Peebles, Rogers and her family moved to Portsmouth. Now her youngest child attends the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Academy.
“My first two children are now graduated from college and my third and fourth are in college and my youngest is in enrolled in STEM,” said Rogers.
In addition to her home life, Rogers is also a 4H adviser and serves on the Board of Directors for the Adams County Fair.
“I’d been applying for positions and I saw that the position at the Times was open,” explained Rogers. “I decided to apply because it seemed like something I would like. I want to go back to school and get more of an education in Business Management, so I just saw this as something I would do well in.”
Laura had expressed interest not just in job seeking, but in being part of the newspaper team from day one, the submission of her resume.
“Given Laura’s experience, compassion and dedication, I knew she was the best fit for filling that expanded role.” Comer continues, “She was thrilled at the offer. That is the type of excitement I want to see in regard for my community newspapers. “
So far, Rogers has enjoyed working at the Daily Times and says she looks forward to developing relationships with her customers and the community.
