The Scioto Valley Volunteers (SVV) Chapter, United States Daughters of the War of 1812, proudly announces their newly elected chapter officers for the 2017-19 term. At the SVV regular October meeting, a slate of nominated officers was put forth for vote for the first actual election for the chapter. The SVV Chapter, under the leadership of Gail Cropper Swick,
was organized in July 2013 with officers for the “organizing,” year and subsequent regular two-year term filled by committed volunteer members.
By unanimous vote, the following officers were elected: Elizabeth Howard Normand, President; Mary Lois Stewart, Vice-President, Anna Childers Meyers, Chaplain; Marilyn Morrow Schomburg, Corresponding Secretary; Belinda Bowman-Schaefer, Historian; Mary Ellen Crist, Treasurer; Naomi Howard Shewman, Librarian. ; Carolyn Morrow Hilliard, Recording Secretary and Gail Cropper Swick, Registrar. Carolyn Hilliard also was named Parliamentarian. Bowman-Schaefer, Hilliard and Normand are, or have been, State Committee Chairmen, with Crist currently serving as a State Committee member.
The National Society U.S.D. of 1812 will be celebrating their 125th year Quasquicentennial (1892-2017) in the coming new year. The purpose of the Society is to promote patriotism, to preserve and increase knowledge of the history of the American people by the preservation of documents and relics, the marking of historic spots, the recording of family histories and tradition….to urge Congress to compile and publish authentic records of men in civil, military and naval service from 1784 to 1815 inclusive, and to maintain at National Headquarters a museum and library of memorabilia of the 1784-1815 period.
Eligibility for membership is extended to women age 18 and over who can provide satisfactory proof that they are lineal descendants of an ancestor who, during the period of 1784-1815 inclusive, rendered civil, military or naval service to our country, or rendered material aid to the U.S. Army or Navy.
