Shawnee Family Health Center, in Portsmouth, will host ‘Shine a Light’ 5K Run/Walk Saturday, Sept. 26, at Tracy Park. Janie Haas, Integrative House Care and Administrative Specialist at SFHC, said they are very excited about the opportunity to host the event for the good of the community.

“This is our first time attempting this event, and we are really excited about it. A lot of people did not know that we are now Shawnee Family Health Center, formerly Shawnee Mental Health, but a lot of people didn’t know that,” Haas said.

Additionally, SFHC wants to make the public cognizant of the services they provide.

“A lot of people do know about everything we do,” she said. “We decided to host this event because we want people to know that they have a place that they can go if they have suicidal thoughts.”

According to Haas, the proceeds from the Shine a Light 5k will be allocated toward suicide awareness and prevention activities.

Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the event begins 9 a.m. Entry fees are $20 per person, with pre-registration by Sept. 14, and $25 after and the day of the event.
