Presented by Magic Moments Photography, ‘Undead by Dark,’ an interactive Halloween game, will be held at Riverside Park, located at 15888 US Highway 52, West on October 22.
Registration for the event will begin at 3 p.m. and the game will begin at 5 p.m.
The game follows a zombie narrative and will be similar a game of hide and seek combined with capture the flag. Participants will be split into two teams, Zombies versus Survivors. Participants will be given a belt with two detachable flags, the object of the game is to capture as many flags from the opposing team as possible. Once a players flags are taken, they are eliminated from the game.
There will also be a 78-foot inflatable obstacle course.
The winner will receive a package of rewards valued at $750 dollars, including a $350 gift certificate to On the Esplanade Laser Center & Medical Spa, $175 gift certificate to Shamrock Tattoo & Fine Arts Gallery, a one-night guestroom at the Shawnee Lodge & Conference Center, along with a one hour photo shoot along with a disk of images from Magic Moments Photography. There will also be prizes awarded for mini-contests held throughout the night.
“I am not from Portsmouth, I’m from a larger city down South,” said Katie Cochran. Cochran is the owner of Magic Moments Photography, the sponsor of the event. “I’m not used to traveling to hours away to places like Cincinnati or Columbus to do events like this. My husband and I are committed to staying in the area, we’ve committed to raising our family here. I would like to make sue that my family and friends, we don’t have to travel so far away for something, I want to have it in the backyard.”
The event also serves as a fundraiser for the Portsmouth Homeless Shelter, participants can bring 10 canned food items in exchange for an extra flag. If a participants bring in 20 canned food items, they will receive two flags.
“The cost of the ticket is eaten up, there’s insurance, advertising, the shirts, the bags,” said Cochran. “I wanted to give back to the community in some way, but I knew it wouldn’t be financially. That’s when I got the idea for the canned food drive. I got in contact with the homeless shelter, and I know canned food drives can go unnoticed. So I offered an incentive for the game, the only way to get extra flags and last longer in the game is by bring items and trading them.”
The event is a ticketed event, with a minimum ticket requirement of 150 participants for the event to take place and a limit of 300 participants. After the game is over, there will be an ‘Afterlife Party,’ hosted by DJ Franky Frank. There will also be concessions provided by LIFE Ambulance and a bon fire.
Player tickets will be $35 and will include the use of a belt and flags. Pre-registered participants will receive a drawstring backpack and t-shirt.
Spectator tickets will be $20 and will include a t-shirt and drawstring backpack.
Tickets will also be available for purchase at Awesome Town and Castle Comics, as well as Bowlands Mini Mart, beginning Oct. 1.
Participants must be 16 or older, and must sign a participation waiver. Participants under the age of 18 must also have a signed and notarizes parental consent form. Photo ID’s will be checked and anyone without a government issued ID will be turned away without refund.
