‘Back in Thyme’ opens in Burg

WHEELERSBURG, Ohio — Specializing in rustic home decor, primitive designs and floral arrangements, ‘Back in Thyme’ a new store in Wheelersburg, is now open.

The store opened on Thursday and received a warm-welcome from the Wheelersburg community according to store owner Cathy Jennings.

“It’s been a great success. So far, a lot of what I’ve been hearing and the feedback I received is that there are no other primitive shops like this in the community,” said Jennings.

Jennings has been in business for 24 years, having recently moved her business from Ashland, Kentucky to her hometown of Wheelersburg.

The shop is located at 433 Center Street in Wheelersburg, across the street from Deemer’s grocery. Jennings spent three weeks renovating the space, tearing down walls, painting and cleaning to prepare for the opening.

“I made the drive back and forth to Ashland nearly everyday for 11 years, I decided it was time to bring my store back to Burg to be closer to my family,” explained Jennings.

Jennings says that her customers from Ashland and the Kentucky area supported her decision and many came to the opening of the store.

“I encourage people to shop local and small businesses, in our area, we don’t have a lot of large industry jobs like a lot of places have and small businesses supply employment,” said Jennings.

Jennings creates her own wax-melt tarts, candles, lighting fixtures, and keeps a large stock of primitive decorations and other items.

“I try to keep my shop as unique as I possibly can,” stated Jennings. “People want the uniqueness of everything, and they want that primitive old and that’s what I’ve tried to create. We’re still adding, I’ve got a ton of stuff to bring in.”

In addition to her primitive items, Jennings creates custom floral arrangements for weddings, banquets and other special occasions.

The store is open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday with plans to extend the hours in September to accommodate for the holiday season.

“I know that people work and things like that, I have no problem making appointments to open for evening hours,” Jennings explained, “they can call me and I can stay open.”

Jennings plans to have her online store up and running soon, she is also planning for a Fall Open House and a Christmas Open House.
