Laura Ann Saunders, 56, of Wheelersburg, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.

She was born in Portsmouth June 13, 1953, to the late Arthur and Ruth Hartlage Pellegrinon. She was a teacher of Valley Elementary School with 33 years of service. She was a member of the Ohio Education Association and of St. Peters Catholic Church in Wheelersburg.

She is survived by her husband, Steven Saunders of Wheelersburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Karma and Blake Copley of Huntington, W.Va.; a son, Alex Saunders of Columbus; two sisters, Emma Lou (Jerry) Jenkins of Portsmouth and Jane (Tom) Kessinger of Cincinnati; mother-in-law, Eloise Saunders of Huntington; sister-in-law, Libby (Tim) Cornwell of Huntington; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Peters Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Yokum officiating, and burial following at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Melcher Funeral Home in Portsmouth.

She was a wonderful teacher and a very nice lady. She will be sadley missed bye all who was around her. We will keep your family in our prayers. She had a wondeful spirit about her. The school will not be the same.
