Halloween trick or treating in all areas of Scioto County this year will be Oct. 29, between the hours of 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. The City of Portsmouth announced its plans for trick or treat during the City Council Conference Session Sept. 14, and New Boston Village Council announced the same date and time during their meeting on Sept. 15. A spokesperson in the Scioto County Commissioners Office confirmed the same date and time for all areas in the county.
Porter announces open house
The Porter Township Fire Department will have its annual open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the fire station, 676 Center St., Wheelersburg. Sparky and the Porter Township Safety Trailer will be there. Also there will be refreshments and door prizes.
Red Cross announces classes
The Ohio River Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross will have these classes during July.
Adult CPR with AED Child and Infant CPR, and First Aid with a cost of $45 will be held on the dates at the Chapter House, 1801 Robinson Ave.:
• 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 16;
• 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 24;
• 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 28; and
• 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 30.
Those who are interested need only choose one date.
This course is ideal for parents, grandparents, expectant parents and anyone desiring a working and thorough knowledge of CPR/AED/first aid.
Bloodborne Pathogens: Prevention of Disease Transmission may be added to the courses offered Oct. 16 or Oct. 30 for an additional fee of $15. The course may be taken by itself for $35. Those requesting this service must specifically request it as the time of registration. The class will required approximately an additional 45 minutes.

Post Office is closed Monday
The United States Post Offices will be closed Oct. 12 in observance of the Columbus Day holiday. There will be no regular mail delivery; however, Express Mail will be delivered.
Normal retail house and mail delivery will resume Oct. 13.
Flu shot clinic at Smith’s rescheduled
Smith’s Pharmacy and Home Medical of Portsmouth, 745 Second St., has canceled a flu and pneumonia shot clinic scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. It will be rescheduled when a supply becomes available.
