Unlike a year ago when southeastern Ohio had a Player and Coach of the Year on the All-Ohio list, the 2012-2013 teams in Divisions III and IV were released Tuesday night without such acclaim.

The region did, however, produce a pair of First Team selections with Ironton senior Zac Carter with Division III and Eastern senior Chad Lands in Division IV. Both were Southeast District Players of the Year in their respective divisions.

Only one area player was named to Second Team in either division. That honor went to Minford senior Austin McBee.

Carter’s teammate Trey Fletcher was a Third Team selection in Divsion III while Lands’ running mate Tavares Pickett received the same honor in Division IV. Overall, the Fighting Tigers had three names in the All-Ohio lists.

Division III Special Mention selections went to local athletes Jayllen Carter of Portsmouth, Piketon’s Craigen Moore and Peebles’ Trent Arey. Honorable Mention selections in the division included West’s Michael Hafer, Wheelersburg’s Dylan Miller, the Valley junior duo of Hayden Dunn and Jordan West, Ironton’s Trevor White, Piketon’s Zach Farmer and Oak Hill’s Luke Hammond.

Special Mention awards in Division IV were given to New Boston’s Shane Buckley, Notre Dame’s J.P. Kayser and East’s Justin Crager. Division IV Honorable Mention awards went to Notre Dame’s Kevin Lewis, East’s Patrick Bias, the South Webster pair of Levi Cook and Seth Goddard and Symmes Valley’s Tyler Rowe.

Last season, Portsmouth’s Dion McKinley and Gene Collins were named co-Player and co-Coach of the Year in Division III. This year, Cincinnati Summit Country Day’s Kevin Johnson, Bloom-Carroll’s Isaac McGlone and Beachwood’s John Davis III were all co-Players of the year while Haviland Wayne Trace’s Jim Linder, Richwood North Union’s Brian Terrill and St. Bernard Roger Bacon’s Brian Neal all shared the top coaching honors.

Co-Players of the Year in Division IV went to Vanlue’s Zach Garber and Newark Catholic’s Jett Speelman. Three coaches — Columbus Africentric’s Michael Bates, New Madison Tri-Village’s Josh Sagester and St. Henry’s Eric Rosenbeck — all shared the Division IV Coach of the Year honors.

Ironton coach Mark LaFon and Eastern’s P.J. Fitch were named Coaches of the Year in their respective divisions on the district level. LaFon will take his Fighting Tigers into their third all-time state semifinal appearance Thursday against Ottawa-Glandorf.
