Naomi Fowler, 85
Naomi Frances Thompson Fowler, 85, of Wheelersburg, went home to be with her Lord Feb. 23, 2013, at Best Care in Wheelersburg.
Born April 16, 1927, in Hollywood, MD; she was the daughter of the late Phillip Briscoe and Daisy Jones Thompson. Naomi was the loving wife of the late Reverend Ira E. Fowler, Sr., whom she married on Dec. 31, 1944, in Annapolis, MD, and who preceded her in death on June 4, 2006. Naomi was also preceded in death by her daughter Sandra Sue Fowler on Jan. 31, 1974.
She is survived by her children; Shirley (Tom) Hutchison of Louisburg, NC, Vivian (Robert) Leon of Raleigh, NC, and Ira Jr. (Sue) Fowler of Wheelersburg, her sister, Juanita Modlin of California, MD, and grandchildren; Rachel Hage of Nashville, TN, Jonathan and Emily Leon of Raleigh, NC and Ira III and Samuel Fowler of Wheelersburg. Naomi was preceded in death by her siblings; Roscoe, Latelle, Lamen, and John B. Thompson, Isabel Neilson, Mavis Sweeney, Daisy Pegg, and Ruth Joy.
Naomi graduated from Great Mills High School in 1944. She was a lifelong member of the Church of the Nazarene. She and her husband served as evangelists traveling throughout the country early in their ministry where she played the guitar and sang. She also taught Sunday school and served as a dedicated pastor’s wife in churches in New Jersey, West Virginia, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio and Maryland. Naomi left a beautiful testimony and will always be remembered by those who knew her as a “southern belle” who loved God, His word, the church and her family.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday March 20, 2013, at 7 p.m. at the Sciotoville Church of the Nazarene with Reverend Chad Garinger officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in Naomi’s honor to the Potter’s House Ministries in Sciotoville.
