Students of the Hill View Art class held an art exhibition Thursday in the Fireplace Lounge. The exhibition featured 65 paintings from members of the class.

Genny Laninga, art teacher at Hill View said she and the five members of the art class have been painting for the last year and the current exhibition is the second one.

“None of them had ever painted, they think they can’t do it until they try it,” Laninga said. “When we started out I would paint, they (students) would follow me and then the just took off. They did so well, we started picking out things that fascinates us and they paint it.”

Laninga said the students find inspiration for their paintings from photographs and images they have seen.

“It’s just amazing to see the students produce this level of work,” Laninga said.

Laninga said as long as there are students in the class, she plans to keep teaching them. She also said to expect more exhibitions of works in the future.

Art class students Betty Fitzer and Pat Reinhardt did not think they could become painters at first and has now it is one of their hobbies.
