Alma Canary, 95

Alma A. Canary, age 95, formerly of Portsmouth, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at the Walnut Creek Nursing Center in Dayton. Born on March 21, 1917, in New Boston, she was a daughter of the late Charles & Ola Sparks Riepenhoff. Alma retired after many years of employment with the Williams Shoe Factory and attended the Swauger Valley Free Will Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Canary, brothers, Carl, Harold and Ralph Riepenhoff, and sister, Jenny. Survivors include a brother, Everett Riepenhoff of Dayton, a sister-in-law, Rosella Riepenhoff of Wheelersburg, and several nieces and nephews.

Alma enjoyed knitting, working puzzles and her volunteer work with RSVP. A funeral service will be held at noon on Friday at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Ronald Parker, officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Brant’s in Sciotoville after 11 a.m. on Friday. Memorial contributions may be to the Swauger Valley Free Will Baptist Church or R.S.V.P., 221 Court Street, Portsmouth, Ohio 45662 in Alma’s memory.
