ATHENS — Holding a team to a single field goal to start a game could either spark more of the same or a big change.

In the case of No. 1 Adena Sunday afternoon, the latter was the path the Warriors chose as they ended No. 2 Ironton’s season in a 41-32 Division III Southeast District Championship at Ohio University’s Convocation Center. Despite facing a 5-2 deficit to start the second quarter, Adena went on a 7-0 run at the onset of the period and never gave the lead up for the remainder of the contest.

The Warriors’ biggest lead in the game came on a Natalie Cooper free throw with 1:34 remaining to make it a 41-25 game. Cooper led all scorers with 16 points on the night.

Freshman Lexie Barrier led the Fighting Tigers with 11 in the contest. Ironton graduates Ariel Schweickart, Alana Martin, Karlee McMackin and Alicia Murphy.

Fighting Tigers coach Doug Graham was not available for comment after the game.
