MARTHA J. SHARP

Janie Sharp passed away peacefully at Hill View Retirement Center, March 2. She was born in Portsmouth Sept. 30, 1924 to the late Alma and Roy Leichner. She went to be with the Lord and her husband, Bill, who preceded her in death in 2007. Her brother, Charles Leichner, also preceded her in death.

Janie attended Portsmouth schools graduating from PHS in 1942. Upon graduating, Janie worked at Bragdon’s Department Store. She met her late husband, Bill, after World War II in 1945 and was married in 1946. She was the mother of four boys, Jerry, Jim, Dan and Tom.

Janie volunteered at General Hospital and served with the first Charity Horse Show at Branch Ricky Park. Janie continued to volunteer at SOMC providing many years of service before becoming manager of the gift shop. She retired from the gift shop in 1987 and began volunteering at Friends Community Center where she served on the board of directors until 2004.

Janie had a wonderful life, loved gardening and serving others. She was a member of Christ’s Community Church.

She is survived by four sons, Jerry (Janie) of Portsmouth, Jim (Maureen) of Columbus, Dan (Jennifer) of Rock Island, and Tom (Jeanette) of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Janie will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at F. C. Daehler Mortuary Company in Portsmouth. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, Janie wished all donations be sent to Christ’s Community Church, P.O. Box 649, Portsmouth, Ohio, 45662. PEACE.
