Jean Barker, 89

Jean E. Barker, 89, of Portsmouth, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at Heartland Health Care.

She was born Jan. 29, 1924, at Portsmouth; the daughter of the late Lawrence and Margaret Henry Vernier. Jean was a member of St Mary Catholic Church and a former employee of Arrick Bottle Gas Company. She is preceded in death by her husband Orville Barker, a daughter Donna Adkins, a grandson Roy Barker and a sister Jo Ann Erwin.

Surviving are two sons Richard Barker of Valrico,Florida, Stephen Barker of Portsmouth and a daughter Judy Galloway of Portsmouth, 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one brother David Vernier of Columbus.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday 11 a.m. March 5, 2013, at St Mary Catholic Church with The Rev. Adam Streitenberger officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at Melcher Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday. A Prayer Service will be held 7:30 p.m. Monday at Melcher Funeral Home.
