Capping a career with 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds may grab attention.

In the case of Notre Dame senior Jen Arnzen, that recognition includes being named the Girls Division IV Player of the Year by District 14 of the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association. Her coach, J.D. McKenzie was also named Division IV Coach of the Year by the district.

In all, 23 players from Scioto County and another eight from Pike County made the list. Arnzen will also be an alternate for the Division III and IV North/South All-Star Game. Details of the game itself were not available at the time of the report.

Joining Arnzen on Division IV First Team honors are Clay junior Emily Widdowson, Eastern senior Chandler Brown and Western senior Brittany Reader.

Second Team honors went to Clay junior Katie Redding, Eastern freshman Carson Roney, Green senior Giulia Elli, New Boston junior Kiersten McGraw, East senior Mercedes Tackett and South Webster senior Kaci Messer.

Those named to Honorable Mention were Clay’s Lexie Gilliland, Eastern’s Brittany Mounts, Green’s Madison Applegate, New Boston’s Emily Waugh, Notre Dame’s Brooke Pierron, East’s Jessie Monroe, South Webster’s Kacie Hall and Western’s Erin Brewster.

Divisions II and III did not have a local representative on either First Team. The only player in Division II from the area to receive recognition was Waverly’s Bri Wiget, who was named Honorable Mention.

Area teams dominated Second and Third Teams in Division III. Piketon junior Kalen Jenkins, Portsmouth sophomore Peighton Williams, West senior Tori Leader — who is also over 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds — and Wheelersburg senior Fay Proehl were all Second Team. For Third Team, honors went to Minford junior Kylie Berry and Valley senior McKenzie Coriell.

Minford’s Kelsey Conkey, Northwest’s Darbie Jenkins, Piketon’s Ashlee Lawhorn, Portsmouth’s Dasia Kennedy, West’s Alex Ridout, Valley’s Bethany Conley and Wheelersburg’s Sydney Holden were named Division III Honorable Mention. The boys all-district list from the coaches will be released next week.
