The United State’s Attorney’s Office will prosecute the case of a Portsmouth man who was arrested with over $10,000 worth of crack cocaine as well as over $3,000 cash, all being confiscated. Barry Cave, 58, of 714 Brown St., Portsmouth faces charges of trafficking in drugs and possession of drugs, both felonies of the first degree.

Portsmouth Police Chief Robert Ware and Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said on Wednesday, at approximately 4:10 p.m., the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force executed a narcotics-related search warrant at Cave’s residence.

Upon a search of the residence, Task Force officers said they seized approximately 107.9 grams of suspected crack cocaine, with a street value of more than $10,000, more than $3,300 in cash, tools suspected of being used in drug trafficking and drug paraphernalia.

Cave’s brother, 56-year-old Cornel Cave of the same address, was arrested on an outstanding warrant which had been issued by the Portsmouth Municipal Court for failing to appear for sentencing due to a driving under suspension offense, which is a misdemeanor of the first degree.

Both Barry and Cornel Cave were placed in the Scioto County Jail. Barry Cave is being held on a $50,000 bond, while Cornel Cave is being held on a $2,200 bond. Both were to be arraigned in Portsmouth Municipal Court Thursday.

A case against Barry Cave will be forwarded to the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office to be presented to a Scioto County grand jury or prosecuted federally by the United States Attorney’s Office.

Ware and Donini said anyone wishing to leave drug information for the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force; can contact the Task Force tip line at 740-354-5656 or email drugs@sciotocountysheriff.com. All information will be kept confidential and anonymous.
