Ronald Harris

“Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings.” Proverbs 22:29

Ronald Clay Harris of Lucasville, Ohio was called home to meet his Lord and Savior on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013. He quietly served with a mind for life-long work, strength to complete the task set before him, a grateful attitude and a servant’s heart.

The son of the late Joseph Henry and Nannie Ravencraft Harris, he was born Feb. 5, 1939, in Twin Valley, Ohio. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Diane Johnson Truglio Harris.

Ron is also survived by son, Joe Harris (Suzanne Shelpman) of Kettering, Ohio; three sisters, Nancy Buckle, Shirley Fink, Eldeen (Don) Compton; two brothers, Charles (Emily) Harris, Wayne (Phyllis) Harris. Sister-in-law, Carol (Roger) Sessor also survives.

Four children by marriage survive Ron including Chris (Julie) Truglio, Amy Truglio, Stacey (Darren) McNeil, and Mindy (Tom) Martin. Fourteen grandchildren: David Seth Potts, Brent McNeil, Zak Kempton, Tori Potts, JJ Bond, Cody Bond, Marissa Truglio, Charlie Potts, Christopher Truglio, Wade Martin, Becca Martin, Christian Payne, Cade McNeil and Gabe McNeil; two great-grandchildren, Thomas Potts and Stella Broome.

In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Harris.

A 1958 graduate of Valley High School, Ron began working at a young age helping his father with the family farm. He retired from Empire Detroit Steel and Valley Local School District; he was also the former owner/operator of Harris Tank Lines and Ron’s Backhoe Service. At the time of his death, he and Diane were owners of the Minford Dairy Bar.

Ron was generous without the need for recognition. His giving spirit was only surpassed by the pleasure it gave him to help someone in need.

Ron gave his heart to the Lord in May of 2006 and was baptized as a brother in Christ on Father’s Day of the same year. He was a faithful member of New Hope Freewill Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir.

The family wishes to thank the staff of SOMC Hospice including Monica Holbrook, Su Hall as well as the Respite Inpatient Care Team and special caregiver, Joy Carpenter. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift in Ron’s memory to New Hope Freewill Baptist Church, SOMC Hospice or the charity of your choice.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church with Joe Harris, Tom Martin and Dan Widdig officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg. Friends may call at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Online condolences may be sent to www.edafh.com.
