Troopers from the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol have confiscated $5,000 worth of heroin and arrested two people. The driver of a vehicle pulled over for a traffic stop, Kree O.L. Wilcoxson, 22, and a passenger, Danyel P. Dixon, 30, both of Dayton, are charged with possession of heroin, a felony of the second degree.

Portsmouth Post Commander Lt. Karla Taulbee, said troopers stopped a 2013 Dodge Charger on U.S. 23 in Lucasville at approximately 11:02 p.m. Monday for a speed violation. Taulbee said troopers detected an odor of marijuana coming from the passenger compartment of the vehicle and a search was conducted. After troopers questioned the driver, the passenger told them she was concealing contraband on her person.

Both were transported to the Portsmouth Post of the OSHP, and, at the Portsmouth Post, the driver voluntarily forfeited approximately 33 grams of suspected heroin, with a street value of approximately $5,000.

As the last pill mill was closed in Scioto County in 2011, law enforcement began seeing more heroin popping up. With prescription drugs harder to get, drug dealers and illegal drug users are more and more turning to the cheaper heroin, and more arrests with heroin involved have been seen on police blotters in the area over the last several months.
