Olga Williams, 67

Olga Floridalma Coyoy de Pol Williams, 67, of Stout, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at the SOMC Hospice Center in Portsmouth. She was born May 12, 1945, in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, C.A. to the late Higinia Pol.

Along with her husband, Olga was the owner of William’s Carpet and Ceramics in Portsmouth. She had also worked at the former Kenrick’s and Marting’s Department Stores. She was a member of the Sister City Committee, and she was a translator for SOMC and other local businesses and government offices. Olga worked as a tutor for Clay High School and she mentored many Spanish speaking individuals who were new to the Portsmouth area. She had been a Peace Corps volunteer, and she was a former Mercy Hospital Twig 12 Guild member. A graduate of the Portsmouth Interstate Business College with an Associate of Business Degree, Olga was also a former Meals on Wheels volunteer.

Olga was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and she attended Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church where she assisted with the Spanish Mass. She was very proud to have become a naturalized U.S. citizen on Aug. 21, 1978.

Surviving are her husband, William “Bill” Kenneth Williams, whom she married Sept. 9, 1967, in Portsmouth; two daughters, Victoria Book of Portsmouth, and Amy (James) Conley of Wheelersburg; four grandchildren, E.J. Conley, Max Conley, Macy Conley, and Emmy Book; her Goddaughter, Elisa Bailey Neuhaus of Cincinnati; an uncle, a cousin and their families of Guatemala; and many special friends.

In addition to her mother, Olga was also preceded in death by a grandmother who helped rear her, Santiago Zum de Pol; her American parents, Tom and Marie Perkins; and a grandson, Zaccari Todd Book.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. David Young officiating.

The family will receive friends at the RALPH F. SCOTT FUNERAL HOME in Portsmouth Thursday from 5 to 8 pm. A wake service will be held at the funeral home Thursday at 8 pm.
