On Jan. 25, 2013, Hogan’s Port City Pub, in cooperation with Haute Stuff catering and the Shawnee State University (SSU) Development Fund, held its second annual Burn’s Supper.

Burn’s Suppers are an International tradition held on this date to honor Scotland’s most notable poet, Robert Burns, affectionately referred to as The Bard. Burn’s Suppers in keeping with tradition follow a strict protocol, that has changed very little since first established in 1802. Part of the tradition is to donate the proceeds of the Dinner to help support the local arts. The Port City Benevolent Society, in keeping with the theme, has chosen to donate the proceeds of its Burn’s Suppers to the SSU Creative Writing Fund, which helps supports student writers and poets.

On Thursday, Feb. 7, at 8 p.m. in the Port City Pub’s club room, representatives of the Society will be presenting a check to Dr. Neil Carpathios and the SSU Development Fund for $950 representing the net proceeds from this year’s dinner.
