An arrest warrant was issued Monday for a suspect in the weekend robbery of National Cash Advance in New Boston. The suspect, Jeremy Hogsten, was already being held in the Greenup County, Ky., Jail after being caught with the stolen money in South Shore, Ky., Saturday afternoon.

According to New Boston Police Capt. Steve Goins, National Cash Advance called the NBPD at about 11 a.m. Saturday to report that an employee had been robbed on the parking lot while walking outside to go to the bank with the business money deposit bag. The bag was forcefully grabbed from the employee’s hand and the suspect ran to a vehicle parked on the parking lot. No weapon was shown or used in the robbery and the employee was not injured.

Two witnesses on the parking lot heard the victim employee scream for help. The two witnesses chased after the suspect, until the suspect got into a Chevrolet Blazer and drove away from the scene with a large amount of money.

Police said the witnesses were able to get the tag number of the vehicle and Jeremy Hogsten, age 28, of Portsmouth, became a suspect in the robbery. He was arrested at about 1:50 p.m. Saturday, after South Shore Police Chief Bill Swords observed the suspect vehicle driving through South Shore. The Greenup County Sheriff Department assisted on the scene, and a large amount of money from the robbery of the National Cash Advance was recovered from inside the vehicle.

Hogsten was arrested for receiving stolen property, and taken to the Greenup County Kentucky Jail. New Boston Police obtained and served an arrest warrant on Monday, and Hogsten will be extradited back to Ohio to appear in the Portsmouth Municipal Court.

Goins said Scioto County Sheriff Detectives Jodi Conkel and Denver Triggs were assisting New Boston Police to help recover other evidence from the robbery where the Hogsten had hidden before his capture.

Goins extended his thanks to the South Shore Police Department, Greenup County Sheriff Department and the Scioto County Sheriff Department for their assistance in this case.
