With the possibility of the school’s first SOC II title since 1998, Wheelersburg’s lone senior Fay Proehl stepped up to the challenge.
Proehl scored 21 points and pulled down 12 rebounds as the Pirates defeated Minford 67-59 to clinch the conference outright. Sydney Holden added 20 points and nine rebounds in the win.
Kylie Berry led the Falcons with 12. Wheelersburg will travel to Fairland Monday. Minford takes on Ashland (Ky.) Rose Hill Christian Saturday evening to complete the previously-postponed New Boston Holiday Tournament.

Courtney Blanton had 11 points and eight steals as host South Webster defeated SOC II foe Waverly 69-36 Thursday night.
Kaci Messer paced the Jeeps with 12 points and six assists. Kilee Perdue had eight points to lead the Tigers.
South Webster travels Monday to East. Waverly will see Northwest Nov. 31.
