A group of 36 people left from Scioto County Wednesday afternoon to attend the 40th Annual March for Life in Washington D.C. on Friday. This is the seventh time a group from the area has gone to Washington for the march.

The group is made up of people from area churches and from Notre Dame High School.

“This is an opportunity for us to witness as a Christian community asking that Roe v. Wade be reversed. We pray for the legal protection of the unborn here in our country,” said Fr. Joseph Yokum, Pastor of St. Monica Church and St. Peters in Wheelersburg.

Yokum said this will be his 11th time he has attended the national march.

He said there was not one march that stood over the other but, “every time we have an opportunity to go with the students and see the conversions that happen to the young people as their hearts are turned and opened up to what it is we are actually doing there, is great.”

He said the hope for this trip is, “that we grow closer together in our relationship with Christ but also we silently witness to change hearts in Washington D.C.”

According to the website www.marchforlife.org, “on Friday, Jan, 25 the March for Life Education and Defense Fund will host its annual Washington D.C. event to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision on abortion. Each year the March draws thousands of pro-life activists and supporters from around the country to rally at the National Mall and march to the steps of the Supreme Court.”

“The March for Life is a demonstration of unity that we need to continue the fight to win over the hearts and minds of all Americans,” said Jeanne Monahan, President of the March for Life Education and Defense Fund in a released statement.

The march will take place Friday on the National Mall.

On Saturday, Jan. 26, there will be a Scioto County March for Life held at 1 p.m. with an indoor program at 2 p.m. at Holy Redeemer Activity Center, 805 Offnere St., in Portsmouth.

The event will feature singing by the Clay High Chorus with guest speakers State Representative Dr. Terry Johnson and State Senator Joe Uecker.

Roe v. Wade should not be reversed. We have no business imposing personal and religious beliefs on others. Not now, not ever.

Murdering someone is not a personal or religious offence. It is illegal around the world. Cutting children up or "vacuuming" them kills them! What kind of barbarians behave this way? Uneducated ones who want to keep the "procedure" hidden. Your right to privacy does not mean you may privately kill someone in your care who is dependent on you. You may not starve, stab, or abuse anyone legally. According to our Constitution, our rights come for our Creator. We need to return to abiding by our laws; not reinterpreting them.

The Constitution, by design, makes no mention of a creator, nor Jesus, nor does it endorse any specific religion. You are confusing it with the Declaration of Independence.

MURDER is illegal-plain and simple-whether you are a believer in Jesus Christ or not. The law of our land says MURDER is illegal. Pulling an unborn infant from it's mother's body is MURDER. Now do you understand?
