Jean Woodson, 88 Jean Elizabeth Woodson, 88, of Portsmouth, passed away Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at the SOMC Hospice Center. She was born Sept. 16, 1924, in Havaco, McDowell County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Richard and Jannie Webb Hogue.

Jean Woodson, 88

Jean Elizabeth Woodson, 88, of Portsmouth, passed away Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at the SOMC Hospice Center. She was born Sept. 16, 1924, in Havaco, McDowell County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Richard and Jannie Webb Hogue.

Jean was a member of the Freewill Mission in Christ in Yukon, W.Va. She was a graduate of Excelsior High School in War, W.Va., and was a former domestic worker.

She was preceded in death Aug. 2, 1994, by her husband, Solomon Woodson, Sr., whom she married Dec. 9, 1941, in Wise, Va.

Surviving are three sons, Clyde (Janie) Woodson of Detroit, MI, Dwight (Patricia) Woodson of Columbus, and Jerry R. Woodson of Portsmouth; two daughters, Delois Woodson and Helen (Tyrone) Adams, all of Portsmouth; a son-in-law, Donald Wesley of Flint, Mich.; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Jean was also preceded in death by three sons, Melvin, Solomon, Jr., and Darrell Woodson; a daughter, Margaret Wesley; two brothers, Jack and Walter Hogue; three sisters, Janie Downey, Helen Clark, and Margaret Walker; and two daughters-in-law, Jody Woodson, and Renee Woodson.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday at the RALPH F. SCOTT FUNERAL HOME in Portsmouth with Evangelist Carolyn Germain officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to services Saturday.

A funeral service will also be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Freewill Mission in Christ in Yukon, W.Va. where the family will receive friends from noon until the funeral hour. Services in West Virginia are under the direction of the Gregory-Page Funeral Home of Welch, W.Va. Burial will follow in the Hartwell (W.Va.) Cemetery.
