Herman Porginski, 88

Herman H. “Buzz” Porginski, 88, of Portsmouth, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at SOMC Hospice.

He was born Nov. 24, 1924, in Cincinnati; the son of the late Stanley and Edna Porginski. Herman was a former employee of Ed Lockner Auto Parts and retired from Martin Marietta. He was a graduate of St. Mary Schools; a player, coach, manager in the Ohio Valley Baseball League and a semi professional baseball player for the Boston Red Sox, a member of St. Mary of The Annunciation Catholic Church and a World War II Navy Veteran.

He is survived by his wife Donna Cole Porginski they were married June 17, 1949, his children Tyler (Barbara) Porginski of Lucasville, Krista (David) Newman of West Portsmouth, grandchildren Luke (Brandy) Porginski, Eve (Keith) Phipps, Emily Newman, Taylor (Beth) Newman, Andrew (Crystal) Newman and eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by six brothers and sisters Dorothy Lockner, Thelma Thompson, Eileen Schaefer, Oscar Porginski, Fred Porginski, and Harold Porginski Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. David Young officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Burial Park with Military Graveside Rites by James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at MELCHER Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at Melcher Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to SOMC Hospice.
