Ora Sherman Jarrells, 84
Ora Sherman Jarrells, 84, of Portsmouth, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at SOMC Hospice Center. Born April 18, 1928 in North Moreland, he was a son of the late James and Alka Grey Roberts Jarrells, Sr. Ora was a retired custodian for the Portsmouth City Schools for over 40 years, a Special Deputy for the Scioto County Sherriff’s Department, and an umpire for the American Legion, Del Rice and the Y.M.C.A. Softball Leagues. He was also a member of the Mabert Road Baptist Church. Also proceeding him in death were a daughter, Alka Bradley; five sisters, Maryanne Cook, Flora Craft, Francis McGraw, Ida Jarrells and Mildred Lawrence; and three brothers, Robert, Ted and James Jarrells, Jr. .
Surviving are his wife, Beulah Mae Flemmings Jarrells, whom he married on Sept. 15, 1951, one son, George Douglas (Jane) Jarrells of Wheelersburg; two daughters, Dianna Williams of Sciotodale and Susan Jarrells of Wheelersburg; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 at the ADKINS-BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN PORTSMOUTH with Pastor Jack Williams officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace. The family will receive friends at the Adkins-Brant Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
