Betty Payton, 81

Betty J. Payton, 81, of Springfield, born March 7, 1931, in New Boston, Ohio, daughter of Floyd and Ruby (Fitch) Stroman, passed away Jan. 15, 2013. Betty was active with the Junior Service League, Young Woman’s Mission, and was an officer on the board of directors for Clark Memorial Home.

She retired as the Director of the Volunteer Service Bureau, a United Way Agency, in 1992, but continued to work for the Springfield Antique Show and Flea Market until her second retirement in 2004. Betty was a long time member of the High Street United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as a great granddaughter, Gracie Turner. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, John; two sons, John Jr. (Asako) of the Netherlands, and James Payton of Springfield; one daughter, Mary Beth Turner of Springfield; two grandsons, Payton and Clinton Turner of Springfield; two granddaughters, Noelle and Emiko Payton of the Netherlands; two great-grandsons, Matthew Turner of Springfield, and Joshua Payton of the Netherlands; one sister, Mary Rase and a niece, Susan (Paul) O’Neill; grand-niece, Katie O’Neill and a nephew, Todd Rase, all of Sciotoville, Ohio.

At her request, her body will be cremated with no visitation. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family, and her cremated remains will be interred in Ferncliff Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of JACKSON, LYTLE & LEWIS FUNERAL HOME.

The family would like to thank the nurses and aides of Community Mercy Home Health Care, with special thanks to Anita Cundiff, for their devotion in caring for Betty during the course of her illness, along with three special friends Patti Evans, Amanda Kahn, and Marla Brashears, who assisted her husband with her care.
