Indians squeak by Senators, gain control of SOC II lead

Despite 13 3-pointers by visiting West Friday night, Valley became the last team to stay unbeaten in conference with a 78-76 SOC II win.

Hayden Dunn led all scorers with 23 points and Will Howard added 16 as they were half of the four Indians to reach double figures. JB Travis, who missed an opportunity to send the game into overtime late with free throws, joined Michael Davis with 18.

Valley is first in the SOC II thanks to a 52-50 upset win by Waverly over previously-unbeaten Oak Hill. The Indians travel to Chillicothe Huntington Saturday night before taking on the Oaks and South Webster in next week’s conference action.

South Webster 61, Wheelersburg 49

Three South Webster players were in double figures Friday night as the visiting Jeeps defeated Wheelersburg 61-49.

Levi Cook and Seth Goddard each had 17 points for South Webster and Lance Swords chipped in with 16. Dylan Miller had a dozen and Eddie Miller finished with 10 for the Pirates.

The Jeeps turn right around and travel Saturday night to East. Wheelersburg will entertain Minford in Tuesday’s SOC II contest.

Waverly’s defense forced Luke Hammond’s 3-point attempt with under five seconds in Friday’s SOC II contest to go off the mark to seal the Tigers’ 52-50 home upset win over Oak Hill.

Jean Paul White led all scorers with 18 points and Philip Hart added 13. Garrin Stiltner had 15 and Drew Haislop added 14 in the loss.

Waverly goes to North Adams for Saturday’s nonconference affair. The Oaks welcome Valley Tuesday.

Austin McBee’s game-high 23 points along with Brandon Rowe’s 13 gave host Minford a 71-43 home SOC II win over Northwest.

The Falcons had four players reach double figures. Drew Scarberry led the Mohawks with 16.

Minford travels Tuesday to Wheelersburg. Northwest goes to West.

With JP Kayser’s 14 points leading 10 Notre Dame scorers Friday night, the Titans disposed of visiting Green 54-28 in an SOC I contest.

Rob Applegate led the Bobcats with seven points in the contest. Notre Dame goes on the road Tuesday to face Western. Green hosts Clay.

Visiting East made sure to make a living off free throws while making sure Clay did not attempt any as the Tartans left Rosemount with a 41-39 win.

East made 10 free throws while the Panthers were 0-of-2 from the line on the night. Patrick Bias led the Tartans with 15 and Justin Crager added 10. Eldin Sarajlic had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Clay.

East hosts South Webster in Saturday night’s nonconference tussle. The Panthers go to Green Tuesday.

Makeups

The Daily Times has learned that a noon tip Jan. 12 has been set for the make-up date for Notre Dame and Western to play in an SOC I girls game. The game, which will take place in Latham, was originally scheduled for Dec. 29 before weather forced the postponement.

It is also reported the Notre Dame boys will host Raceland (Ky.) in a Feb. 2 makeup. There will not be a reserve game before this contest.

Before the boys take the floor, the Titan girls and Western will play at 6 p.m. with no reserve game.
