Donald Mauk, 82

Donald Dee Mauk, 82, of Stout, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at SOMC Hospice.

He was born Oct. 28, 1930, to the late Kathryn Garvey Mauk and John Lee Mauk.

He was co-owner of Portsmouth Insurance Agency and owner of WZIO. He was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War as a staff sergeant.

Dee was past president of ARM of Ohio; director of Portsmouth Area Growth Foundation; Rotary; past Portsmouth City Councilman; and was a Past President and director of Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Portsmouth Area Jaycees and had also been named Boss of the Year; president of the National Outboard Racing Association; Boy Scout Master Troup 12, and had received the Silver Beaver Award, and was past President of Scioto Council of Boy Scouts. He served as a director for the Portsmouth Convention and Visitors Bureau.

He was a Kentucky Colonel and Admiral; member of James Dickey Post 23 American Legion; Aurora Lodge No. 48 mason, Valley of Cincinnati Scottish Rite, York Rite, and El Hasa Shrine. He was a member of Central Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, George and Robert; and sister, Faye Gardner.

Dee is survived by his wife, Nancy Morgan Mauk; sister Ruth Droll of Springfield; sons, Dee (Karen), Rick (Eva), and John (Jean); grandchildren, Amanda (Jonathan), Eaton, Chris (Sara), Morgan, Greg, Brandi, and Hollie (Aaron) Prater; and great-grandchildren, Macee, Emmee, Caroline, Elizabeth, Kruz and Jacob.

There will be no visitation. Graveside services at Friendship Cemetery, with Dennis Dawes officiating, will be held at the convenience of the family. Graveside military rites were conducted by the Honor Detail of James Dickey Post 23.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Church of Christ, Robinson and Grandview, Portsmouth, Ohio 45662; Boy Scout Camp Oyo Alumni Association, P. O. Box 1746, Portsmouth, Ohio 45662; or SOMC Hospice, 2201 25th Street, Portsmouth, Ohio 45662.

Arrangements are under the direction of F. C. Daehler Mortuary Company in Portsmouth.
