Richard Wolfe, 70

Richard W. Wolfe, 70, of Mount Vernon, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born April 22, 1942, in Clarksburg, W.Va. to Warren Charles Wolfe and Jessie Jearldean (Steerman) Wolfe.

He grew up working for the family meat processing business “Wolfe’s Old Time Sausage,” had been employed as a commercial painter with his father-in-law John Merritt and had been an independent truck driver.

An avid history lover, he also enjoyed hunting and gardening and kept himself busy around his property on Glen Road. Richard’s passion in life was spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years Dixie (Merritt) Wolfe; sons John (Erika) Wolfe and Richard (Kathy) Wolfe both of Mount Vernon and Michael (Wendy) Wolfe of Gambier; daughters Karina (Jim) Hull of Gambier and Kristina (Shannon) Staats of Mount Vernon; 16 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Friends may call Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio where a funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. with Pastor Dan Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
