Michael Hafer’s game-high 16 points helped West turn away visiting Waverly from picking up its first SOC II win of the season in Tuesday’s 61-58 contest.
Hafer was one of four Senators in double figures, joined by Zach Frye (14), Zach Bolton and JB Travis (10 each). Frye added 10 rebounds.
Eric Rinehart led the Tiger charge with 15 points. Frank Sylvester added 13.
West plays Thursday night against Ironton St. Joseph in the Ironton Classic. Waverly returns to action Dec. 28 against Eastern in the Pike County Holiday Tournament.

Notre Dame 79, New Boston 31
A 29-5 third quarter was more than enough separation for visiting Notre Dame Tuesday night as the Titans rolled past New Boston 79-31 in an SOC I game.
Kevin Lewis’ 21-point performance paced the victors as he was joined in double figures by Will Haney and Daniel Ogg with 11 each. Shane Buckley accounted for all but eight of the Tigers’ points which belonged to teammate Brendan Herrforth.
Notre Dame enters the final weekend before the Christmas holiday with back-to-back games within a 24-hour time period. The Titans welcome South Point Friday before taking on Allen (Ky.) Wesley Christian in Saturday morning’s Ironton Classic. New Boston will go to West Union Friday night.

Five 3-pointers by Chad Lands led to a game-high 37-point performance for the Eastern senior as the host Eagles defeated Clay 62-41.
Tavares Pickett added 10 points in the win. Michael Schmidt scored 15 and Eldin Sarajlic pulled down 10 rebounds in the loss.
Clay plays Friday at Northwest. Eastern plays Waverly in the Pike County Classic next Friday.

One rebound was all East’s Justin Crager needed Tuesday night to record a double-double, instead his team picked up the 76-61 SOC I home win over Western.
Crager had 17 points, nine rebounds and seven assists while teammate Patrick Bias led all scorers with 19 points, eight rebounds and five blocks. Tyler Bradford had 14 points, nine assists and five rebounds and Nick Basham chipped in with 10. Dakota Garrett (18 points), Nick Shanks (12) and Ethan Riggs (11) led the Indians.
East will enjoy the Christmas break and return to game action Dec. 28 in the New Boston Holiday Tournament. The same night, Western will tangle with Piketon in the Pike County Holiday Tournament.

Peebles 70, Lynchburg-Clay 66
A Mason Johnson putback with two seconds left helped send host Peebles into overtime Tuesday with SHL rival Lynchburg-Clay.
From there, Beau Justice and Trent Arey accounted for 13 of the team’s 15 points in the extra session as the Indians escaped with a 70-66 win.
Justice led all scorers with 31 points and Arey finished with 25. Peebles travels Saturday night to the Ironton Classic to face Columbus Africentric.
