‘Burg stays perfect, beats Oak Hill 46-40

Wheelersburg built a one-game lead on the SOC II in the standings after defeating second place Oak Hill 46-40 in Oak Hill.

The win essentially gives the Pirates a two-game advantage in the conference standings as they hold the tiebreaker with the top contenders at this point. Fay Proehl led Wheelersburg with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Sydney Holden was two points shy and Brooklyn Adams was a point away from recording a double-double as each pulled down 10 rebounds as well.

Alex Kuhn and Abby Haislop each had 12 points for the Oaks. The Pirates play at Ashland (Ky.) Boyd County Saturday afternoon with the game taking place at the middle school. Oak Hill faces Chillicothe Huntington Friday as a part of the Wellston Lady Rockets Classic.

Bethany Conley’s double-double was the highlight of three Valley players reaching double figures as the Indians earned a 54-48 SOC II road win at South Webster.

The junior finished with 14 points and 16 rebounds to lead Valley. She was joined by McKenzie Coriell (13 points) and Taylor Skaggs (11) in double digits. Kacie Hall’s 20 points finished as the game-high and Mariah Sullivan’s 10 led the Jeeps.

Both teams are on the road for SOC II contests Monday. Valley will be at Waverly and South Webster ventures to West.

Despite a game-high 31 points from Tori Leader, host Minford prevailed with a 56-52 win over West.

Carry Wynn (14 points), Kelsey Conkey (12) and Brooklyn Yeley (10) each were in double figures for the Falcons. Taylor Conley’s eight helped Leader and the Senators.

Minford hosts Oak Hill in Monday’s action. West plays River Valley Saturday in the Golden Rocket Classic.

An outstanding defensive effort helped host East pick up its first win of the season, winning over SOC I rival New Boston 34-25 in Thursday’s action.

Jessie Monroe led the Tartans with 11 points and Tiffany Craft chipped in with nine. Emily Waugh led all scorers with 13 points in the defeat. She was the only Tiger to account for all six of the team’s field goals.

East will be entertained by Green in Monday’s action and New Boston hosts Clay.

Notre Dame remained perfect on the season thanks to Jen Arnzen’s double-double as the host Titans defeated SOC I opponent Clay 40-30.

Arnzen recorded 12 points and 12 rebounds in the game while teammate Madi Phillips had 10 rebounds, six steals and was a point shy of a double-double herself. Emily Widdowson led the Panthers with 14.

Notre Dame is on the road Monday to face Symmes Valley. Clay visits New Boston.

Peighton Williams’ game-high 24 points helped host Portsmouth defeat Piketon 52-40 in Thursday’s nonleague contest.

Kayleigh White chipped in with 11 in the victory. The Redstreaks were led by Kalen Jenkins’ 13 points and 10 from Ashlee Lawhorn.

The Trojans host Warren Saturday afternoon. Piketon plays its home opener Saturday against Chillicothe Southeastern.
