The man who remained at large after the arrest of another man last week is now in custody.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said Daniel Caldwell, 45, of 1606 Robinson Ave., Portsmouth, is charged with one count of burglary, a felony of the second degree.

Last week, Donini said his office received a call that two men were breaking into a home located at 3572 Ohio 140 in Wheelersburg. Donini said the Porter Township Community Policing Deputy Paula Gibson responded to the location. Upon her arrival she observed a gray vehicle in the driveway with a male subject in the driver side of the vehicle. A second male subject took off on foot from the residence.

Arrested was Danny Shepherd, 42, of Sciotoville. He was charged with one count of burglary a felony of the second degree. A warrant has also been filed for Caldwell who remained at large.

Donini said on Monday, after detectives had searched several residences and impounded the suspect’s vehicle, Daniel Caldwell contacted detectives and stated that he wanted to turn himself in.

Detectives responded to 1606 Robinson Ave. Portsmouth where the Caldwell was detained without incident. Caldwell is being held on a $50,000 bond and will appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court this morning.

Donini stated that more charges could be presented to the Scioto County grand jury at a later date.

Anyone with information regarding this burglary should contact Detective Jodi Conkel at 740-351-1091. All calls will remain anonymous.
