Norman Speck, 82

Norman Lee Speck, 82, of West Portsmouth, died Wednesday, Dec. 05, 2012, at SOMC Hospice. He was born Feb. 28, 1930, in West Portsmouth to the late Harry N. and Hazel Ingles Speck. He was a retired steel hauler and was a US Army veteran of the Korean War, where he received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was also a member of the Presidential Guard to President Harry Truman and a member of the VFW. Along with his parents Norman was preceded in death by a son Duane Lee Speck, a brother Eugene Speck and a sister Thelma Nichols.

Norman is survived by his wife Mary Boyd Speck who he married on June 7, 1952, two sons; David Bryan Speck and Eric Neal Speck both of West Portsmouth, two daughters Nancy Elaine Thompson of West Portsmouth and Cathy Renee Clark of New Boston, three sisters; Barbara Curtis of Louisville, Juanita Speck of West Union and Joyce Miracle of Xenia, a half brother Lonnie Freymoth of Dayton, eight grandchildren; Jason Speck, Jerrid Speck, Shanna Sparks, Ashley Clark, Courtney Maiden, Josie Noel, Amber Gillum and John Thompson. Also surviving are 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Ryan Brown officiating. Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park with graveside military rites by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Condolences may be sent to www.rogerwdavisfuneralhome.com
