Harland Nickel, 79

Harland Vincle Nickel, 79 of South Shore, Ky. passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at the residence of his daughter. He was born March 14, 1933, a son of the late Henry Nickel and Anna Collins Nickel.

He was retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of service where he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star and a member of the Harrison Fullerton Masonic Lodge #937 in South Shore, Ky.

Preceded in death by three brothers, Fred, Kenneth and Eddie Nickel and two sisters, Wanda Bush and Virginia Winn.

Surviving are his wife Ruth Horlacher Nickel and two daughters, Sylvia “Mark” Quillen and Debbie “Les” Munn both of South Shore, Ky., three sisters, Freda Owen of Houston, Texas, Anna Nickel and Wilma Keatley both of South Shore, Ky., three grandchildren, Alicia Holbrook, Erin Quillen, Falon Cleary, three great grandchildren, Hunter Holbrook, Hollyn Holbrook, Harper Quillen.

Funeral services 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at the Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore, Ky., with Rev. Kenneth Fox, officiating. Burial will be in Siloam Cemetery, South Shore, Ky. Friends may call at the Roberson Funeral Home Thursday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour on Friday. With Military Graveside services by James L. Flannery American Legion Post #276 of South Shore, Ky.
