James Fout, 84

James Edward Fout, 84, of Ashland, Ky. passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at the Hospice Care Center in Ashland. Mr. Fout was born Jan. 10, 1928, in Portsmouth, Ohio, a son of the late Otis Emerson and Nell Gulker Fout. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a sister Elizabeth “Betty” Fout Moorhead, brother-in-laws, John Moorhead and Robert Trimmer.

Mr. Fout retired from Ashland Oil, with over 34 years of service, as Group Vice President of Marketing for Ashland Petroleum. He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Ashland, a graduate of Ohio State University where he played quarterback for the 1945-46 football team. After his retirement from Ashland Oil, he, with his wife, devoted a lion’s share of his time to volunteer work. As co-founder of River Cities Harvest, he volunteered his time every week. He was also the founder of the Ashland Oil Retirees group, he was a member of the Bellefonte Country Club, and served in many capacities with the Ashland Tennis Center also serving on the ATC Commission from 1985 till his death.

Survivors include his loving wife, Helen Scott Fout of Ashland, son, James Scott Fout and his wife Susan of Ansonia, Conn., daughter, Carol Fout-Zignani and her husband Dino of Finchville, Ky., sister, Mary Margaret Fout Trimmer of Piqua, Ohio, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and family.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at the Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue by Rev. John Street. Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A private burial will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Portsmouth, Ohio.
