PDT Sports Report
The sixth annual Steven A Hunter Hope Fund was held Sept. 8 and 9 at the Steven A. Hunter Tennis Center in Portsmouth’s Clark Athletic Complex and the William Daehler Tennis Center at Shawnee State University.
After an early morning shower the skies cleared and play began with 29 teams participating in seven different events.
This year’s tournament raised more than $13,500 to be used to provide weekend meals for hundreds of hungry local school children. It is estimated that over one in three children in Scioto County are food insecure. Steven’s Power Pack Club currently operates in seven different buildings in five local school districts, including Portsmouth Elementary, East Portsmouth Elementary, New Boston Oak & Stanton, Northwest Elementary, Valley Elementary, & West Elementary providing food to 336 children every weekend during the school year.
The tournament proceeds currently provide a third of the total budget required for Steven’s Power Pack Club and is the organization’s largest fundraiser of the year.
This year’s Champions and Finalists are as follows:
Mens 4.5: Champions, Bobby Blanton and Brian Delcotto; Finalists, John Khoury and Nick Nelson
