The Scioto County Board of Elections on Thursday will be conducting a requested recount on a local liquor option in Porter precinct-A. The option asked voters whether or not to allow B&B Mobile Food Catering LLC, dba The Party House Restaurant, to sell liquor.

Based on the official election results from the Board of Elections, the measure failed 260 votes-against and 233 votes-for.

“Anybody can request a recount. They had a local liquor option that failed and they just want to have us recount the votes. It’s done at a cost of $25 per precinct.”said Julia Gearheart, director of the Scioto County Board of Elections.

She said the votes will be recounted by hand during the process.

After the recount is conducted the post audit will take place. Gearheart said the Board of Elections is mandated to conduct an audit of the even-year elections.

“We will audit the top of the ticket, which is the presidents race. The secretary of state will pick a race, which is a supreme court race, and the board will pick a county-wide race. We will hand count 5 percent of votes cast in each of those races within the county to match them with our official totals.” Gearheart said.

The recount and audit will take place on Thursday, Nov. 29, at 3 p.m. at the Scioto County Board of Elections office, located at 602 7th St., Room 105, in Portsmouth. For more information, call the Scioto County Board of Elections at 740-353-4178.
