William G. Cox, 89

William “Bill” G. Cox, 89 of Portsmouth, joined the choir of heaven on Nov. 23, 2012. Bill was born June 9, 1923 in Portsmouth, Ohio.

Bill leaves behind his wife, Doris J. Cox; his son, Tim(Karen) Cox of Maysville, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Chris (Sara) Cox, Cyndi (Julius) King and Caitlin Cox. He doted on his five great-grandchildren: Cierra King, Cayleigh King, Kolby King, Sunnie Cox and Brinkli Cox.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Ransom Lee and Violet Cox in 1974.

Bill retired from Empire Detroit in 1980 as the last man out of the mill. Among his many other jobs was his work at local funeral homes, a work he did with great honor and diligence. He was a veteran of Word War II and was a great man of the community, committed to the work of his church, Masonic lodge, and the Sciotoville VFW Post 3638.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2012 at F.C. Daehler Mortuary Company in Portsmouth with Pastor Chris Cox officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park. Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Daehlers and one hour prior to the service. Memorial donations may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 3638, Sciotoville, Ohio 45662.

Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Honor Detail of James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. .
