County picks Hoover, state results unavailable

Portsmouth Attorney Marie Hoover won Scioto County in her attempt at winning a seat on the 4th District Court of Appeals.

In Scioto County, Hoover received 15,511 votes or 63.36 percent. Her opponent, Leonard Holzapfel, Jackson County Common Pleas judge, received 8,970 votes or 36.64 percent of the vote.

According to her website, mariehoover.com, “Born in Lakewood, Ohio; 43 years old; married to R. Tracy Hoover, Attorney at Law; two children, Nate & Nick (14) and (12); resides in Scioto County; Marie is the daughter of Dr. & Mrs. Estelito Moraleja of Pike County, Ohio. Marie is a third-degree black belt in karate. She is a team member along with her sons of “Team America” with the American Karate & JuJitsu Union (AKJU); In 2008, Marie won a world championship at the U.S. Open for karate. She was named the ‘2011 Woman of the Year’ and the “2012 Inspirational Martial Arts Example” by the Eastern United States Martial Arts Association. Marie’s interests include the martial arts, running, reading and writing.”

Hoover was thankful for the support she received.

“It was great to meet everyone in the 14 counties. Everyone was supportive, everywhere I went,” Hoover said.

She said the next step is to get an office set up and start working.

The 4th District of Appeals presides over Adams, Athens, Gallia, Highland, Hocking, Jackson, Lawrence, Meigs, Pickaway, Pike, Ross, Scioto, Vinton, and Washington counties.
