West Portsmouth crash claims life

The Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a fatal crash which occurred at approximately 6:36 p.m. on Saturday. The victim in the fatal accident is Casey N. Newman, 27, of Peebles.

According to the OSHP, Pamela J. Johnson, 56, of Ashland, KY, was driving a 2011 Ford Expedition southbound on Ohio 73 just south of Ohio 104. Michael R. Newman, 39, of Otway, was driving a 2007 Kia Spectra northbound on Ohio 73. Troopers said Michael Newman drove left of center and struck Johnson’s vehicle head on. Johnson was pulling a box trailer and drove off the right side of the roadway and struck a ditch. Michael Newman drove off the right side of the roadway and struck a guardrail.

Casey Newman was a passenger in Michael Newman’s vehicle. Casey Newman was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Michael Newman was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center and later flown to Cabell Huntington Hospital. Johnson was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center and later transported by ground to Cabell Huntington Hospital.

The crash is still under investigation.
